Samarkand is known as the heart of the Great Silk Road. The poets of the past named it the Heaven on Earth. There is hardly anyone who would not be inspired and mesmerized by the charming and magnetic beauty of this city with its ancient mosques, madrasahs, mausoleums decorated with the finest patterns and bright colors. Looking at them we seem to hear the voices of the prominent artists and architects of the past, we admire the grandeur of the paints, elegant figures, sudden game of light and shade on the domes and arches taking us away to our dreams from the oriental tales of childhood.
This album presents the art photos of the best Samarkand monuments that are included to the UNESCO Humanity World Heritage list. Highly artistic images are accompanied by the brief information from the antique manuscripts about the history of these madrasahs, mosques, and palaces. At the same time, we reviewed the content of the inscriptions on the monuments that, through these high-flown texts, told us their story. Time was not merciful to these monuments, though it generously preserved the best of them for us.
The state and the people of Uzbekistan protect this heritage carefully, perceiving it as a part of the overall Islamic culture and the global civilization. The magic of this beauty is timeless and spaceless; it always amazes all the people irrespective of their ethnicity or religion.

Самарканд называют сердцем Великого Шелкового пути. Поэты прошлого называли его Земным раем. Нет человека, кто бы не был вдохновлен и очарован чарующей и притягательной красотой этого города, его старинных мечетей, медресе, мавзолеев, которые украшены тончайшими узорами и яркими красками. Глядя на них, мы словно слышим голоса выдающихся художников и зодчих прошлого, поражаемся великолепием красок, ажурными узорами, неожиданной игрой света и тени на куполах и арках, которые словно грезы из восточных сказок детства умиротворяют нас.
В этом альбоме представлены художественные снимки лучших памятников Самарканда, включенные в список ЮНЕСКО «Всемирное наследие человечества». Высо-кохудожественные фотографии сопровождаются краткой информацией из старинных манускриптов об истории этих медресе, мечетей, дворцов. Одновременно мы обратились к содержанию надписей на памятниках, которые через эти высокопарные тексты поведали нам свою историю. Время было безжалостно к этим выдающимся памятникам, хотя благосклонно сохранило для нас лучшие из них. Государство и народ Узбекистана бережно хранят это наследие, воспринимая его как часть общесламской культуры и мировой цивилизации. Магия этой красоты вне времени, вне пространства, она всегда восхищает всех людей, независимо от этнической принадлежности или веры.
