Theodore Herman Albert Dreiser (1871-1945) - American realist writer. "The Financier" (1912) - the first part of the monumental "Trilogy of Desires", which also includes the novels "Titan" and "The Stoic". It is based on the life story of millionaire Charles Yerkes. The main character of the trilogy is Frank Cowperwood. The commercial environment that surrounded Frank since childhood forms the psychology of an entrepreneur in him. Starting with small speculations, gradually getting involved in bold and risky operations, in the conditions of a fierce struggle, Cowperwood acquires a fortune. Assertiveness, energy and talent make the hero a financial genius. Realizing the power of the capital and professional experience he has accumulated, Frank Cowperwood proclaims his life motto, which gave the name to the entire trilogy: "My desires first." The unadapted text is given with some abbreviations and is provided with page-by-page comments and a dictionary. The dictionary pays special attention to financial and economic terms.
