American writer James Oliver Curwood (1878–1927) was born and lived most of his life in Michigan, on the Canadian border. A passionate hunter, naturalist and traveler, he spent long periods of time wandering in the remote and little-explored places of Northern Canada and Alaska, and knew and loved these harsh lands well. His best works are dedicated to the wild nature of the North and the lives of its four-legged inhabitants.
"Fast Lightning" is a fascinating and exciting story about a wolf, whose pedigree includes an unusual distant ancestor - a Great Dane. Strong and courageous, with a wild soul, he still differs from his fellows, especially in his attitude towards other animals and people. And while life forces him to enter into many fights, the greatest struggle unfolds inside him - between animal instinct and the desire for friendship, the law of the wolf pack and the desire for good. Through many trials, Swift Lightning will be able to find himself, but his path will be long, like a long polar night.
