Antoine de Saint-Exupery: Terra des Hommes

Writing was not the only work in the life of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. After being drafted into the army and assigned to an aviation regiment in 1921, he became a pilot - and remained one until the end of his life. The profession of a pilot at that time was especially dangerous: reconnaissance flights and the transport of mail had to be carried out with far from perfect technical equipment. Emergency landings and even plane crashes were not uncommon - in two of them, Exupéry received serious injuries, and he did not survive the third. "Terre des Hommes" (Planet of People) is a collection of autobiographical essays by the French author, telling about this difficult, but by no means prosaic side of his life. Stories about courage, bravery, loyalty to one's duty are woven into reflections on the purpose of man, his path to freedom and happiness. This path is a flight that allows you to find your "landscape of the heart", be it an endless desert, distant stars or the entire planet of people.
